All eyes are on Amusan as Brume and other competitors tumble out of the world athletics championships.

Ese Brume, Nigeria's medal hope in the women's long jump competition, yesterday finished her event outside the medal range for the first time in her illustrious career, finishing in fourth place after her final leap.

Brume, who took home a bronze medal in the same competition in Oregon the year before, was a shell of her former self because her greatest effort fell short of a podium placement.

More of Nigeria's competitors crashed out of their respective events at the World Championships in Budapest, adding to the nation's dismal performance.

Ushoritse Itshekiri and Seye Ogunlewe, two of Nigeria's quickest athletes, failed to finish yesterday's 100-meter semifinals.

Ogunlewe finished fifth in his semifinal race with a timing of 10.12 seconds, and Itsehekiri came in eighth with a time of 10.19 seconds.

Olusoji Fasuba's victory in the 100-meter race in 2007 was Nigeria's best ever.

Tobi Amusan, the world champion in the women's 100-meter hurdles, will start defending her championship tomorrow, therefore all eyes are on her.

Amusan, who had been penalized by the Athletics Integrity Unit for allegedly failing an out-of-competition test, was exonerated by the World Athletics body's Disciplinary Committee after it heard her appeal and decided she had done nothing improper.
