Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's spokesperson for the 2023 elections, Mr. Daniel Bwala, has urged Mr. Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to abandon his plans to demolish buildings in Abuja.
Bwala suggested that instead of threatening to revoke property titles for Abuja inhabitants, Wike concentrate on offering the city's citizens essential amenities in the areas of recreation, healthcare, and sports as well as inexpensive transportation services.
Although he avoided naming the former Rivers state governor, Bwala made these claims in a covert message just hours after Wike threatened to destroy all unauthorized buildings and structures in the FCT as part of an effort to revive the Abuja Master Plan.
This was disclosed by the minister in his inaugural speech, which he gave shortly after being sworn in alongside 44 other people on Monday in Abuja. Those misconstruing the Abuja Master Plan should be reminded that buildings would collapse if they are built in prohibited areas.
"Sorry, but if you build on a green space, it will disappear. We shall cancel the land allocations of individuals who declined to develop them and reassign them to people who are prepared to do so.
"Those who don't pay ground rent, we will not notify them to do so, but I will not be tired of signing revocation notices," Wike continued.
In response, Bwala wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, "TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN. Hello sir, just in case you need a refresher, the basic needs of the people living in the FCT are access to affordable healthcare, quality education, clean sports and recreation facilities, a reliable transportation system, effective and functional street lighting in both the city center and the suburbs, and security.
The PDP leader added that the former governor should display humility as he fulfills his duties as a minister because he would damage President Bola Tinubu's interests if his objective was to cause turmoil in Abuja.
"You arrived in a brash, vindictive spirit, spewing fire and brimstone about title revocation and demolition. Port Harcourt is not Abuja. You will imperil your principal's interests and force him to give up your employment if you cause turmoil in the city. On the work, you will acquire humility, Bwala continued.
