According to Dr. Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the Federal Government is dedicated to helping 133 million Nigerians escape poverty.
At a meeting with the heads of the agencies under the ministry on Monday in Abuja, Edu said the FG can only do this through various interventions and efforts designed to combat poverty.
Edu gave Nigerians assurances about her intention to uphold transparency and accountability during her stint as minister shortly after her appointment.
The most crucial thing, she continued, is that we maintain our commitment to helping 133 million Nigerians escape poverty.
"We can accomplish it in stages, one step at a time, because nothing is impossible for someone with drive and strong will.
We'll succeed, too, thanks to His Excellency President Bola Tinubu's and the entire cabinet's solid political support.
We will downplay politics because we are here to handle governance's actual issues.
The minister added that all available resources would be used to lower the nation's poverty rate.
Different data sources estimate that there are 200 million Nigerians in the country, but the minister believes there are more.
"The sources revealed that 136 million people in this demographic are severely poor, which is unacceptable.
"We must restore the smiles to Nigerians' faces. We must provide a helping hand to the underserved and restore their faith.
"While doing this, we must ensure that we will increase our efforts, be very sincere, transparent, and accountable."
