Niger Coup: Tinubu and Islamic leaders meet in Aso Rock

At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu is currently having a meeting with a group of Nigerian Muslim clerics (Ulama) led by Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi.

Remember how recently a delegation of Islamic leaders requested permission from President Tinubu to speak with the coup organizers in the Niger Republic on behalf of the Economic Community of West African States, or ECOWAS.

They were in Niger to speak with General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the leader of the junta.

The Islamic clergy had cautioned ECOWAS against using military action.

As the head of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu, it is anticipated that the Islamic leaders will report him on the results of their discussions with the military junta and their counterparts in the Niger Republic regarding the political issue.

The ECOWAS has taken action to express its displeasure of the military coup in Niger by enacting a number of sanctions and issuing an ultimatum that it threatened could result in a military response.

The military coup must bring back the President who was duly elected, according to ECOWAS.

The ECOWAS-threatened conflict with the Nigerien military is not supported by the Ulama.

They claimed that in addition to the terrible effects of war, their religious beliefs and the Quran command them to seek out peaceful resolutions to disputes before going to battle.
