The release of Mr. Akpan Essien, a businessman who was kidnapped in the state's Eket Local Government Area, has been announced by the Akwa Ibom Police.
This was revealed on Wednesday in Eket to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by the Command's Public Relations Officer (PRO).
According to NAN, Essien was kidnapped on October 19 around 7:30 p.m. at his store on Etebi Street in Eket.
He responded, "Yeah, we are aware that Essien, the businessman, was set free by his kidnappers."
Essien was freed on October 27, according to a source who wished to remain anonymous.
Before being freed, he said that his kidnappers had held him captive for eight days.
According to the source, Essien was able to rescue himself after his kidnappers were paid N50 million in ransom.
According to him, Essien was given to the family in Parrot Island Creek, which runs between Oron and Calabar and towards the Bakassi Peninsula.
He claimed that Essien was getting care in a state-run private hospital.
