President of NLC Ajaero is detained
The capital of Imo State, Owerri, has seen the arrest of Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Police officers using heavy weapons pulled up Ajaero from the NLC State Council Secretariat and took him somewhere.

Days before, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and the National Labor Congress (NLC) were ordered by the National Industrial Court not to stage any protests in the state.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) Secretary General, Comrade Nuhu Toro, and the General Secretary of the TUC, Emmanuel Ugboaja, signed a statement stating that the Imo state administration has persisted in using violence and intimidation against trade unions and their leadership in the state.

"The government unleashed blood-curdling mayhem on the workers just as Nigerian workers gathered earlier this morning led by the leadership of the two labor centers to demonstrate our outrage over the serial and habitual abuse and violation of workers' rights in the state," the workers claimed.

According to NLC, Ajaero was beaten by state-hired goons and police personnel. He was also placed into a police van and sent to an unidentified location.
