Rights groups protest the political turmoil in Rivers state and warn widespread action in response to NLC President Ajaero's detention.Due to Comrade Joe Ajaero, the national president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), being detained, the United Action Front of Civil Society has threatened to stage a large-scale protest.

In a statement, the group—led by Comrade Olawale Okunniyi—maintained that it would be in Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma's best interest for Ajaero to remain safe while in the care of security officers.

The group issued a warning, stating that the Nigerian people are being forced to take to mass action and that the government run the prospect of completely shutting down Abuja and Nigeria.

The organization also criticized current efforts by anti-democratic elements, allegedly acting on the directives of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, to remove Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from office.

The group strongly denounced the political turmoil in Rivers State and urged Wike to stop imposing further misbehavior on the state and to cease his frantic attempt to remove Governor Fubara, who took office in May of this year.

It stated that "it is rather unbecoming for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to be sponsoring the impeachment of his successor just five months after taking office" and that "the ongoing crisis in Rivers State, which is undoubtedly the continuation of the political rascality and dictatorship of Mr. Wike, must not be allowed to undermine governance in Rivers State and even in the FCT."

"The United Action Front of Civil Society thus demands that the federally controlled security agents refuse to be Mr. Wike's tools for settling scores in Rivers State."

Thus, the organization issued a call to action for prominent opposition figures in the nation, including Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso, Mr. Peter Obi, and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to unite and stand up right away in order to mobilize opposition forces in Nigeria in opposition to the growing impunity and recklessness in the country's governance.

"We wish to reaffirm that popular governance will shrink and die unless political opposition becomes formidable, engaging, and active in any country, especially as the FBI begins to release the Files of the President today in far-off United States of America," the statement continued.

In remembrance of Nigeria's late constitutional icon, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, SAN, who departed this world on Sunday, October 29, the United Action Front of Civil Society will be collaborating with the recently established National Intervention Group, NIG, to organize a significant National Political Summit of Eminent National Leaders, Statesmen and Women as well as Social Influencers, particularly among the Youths of Nigeria. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at a location to be announced soon.
