The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority was told to notify its field offices of the change in a memo that was sighted on Saturday.
About two months have passed since Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu unveiled the plan to mitigate the impact of the state's elimination of subsidies.
After the state's monthly security meeting in late July, Sanwo-Olu made this announcement, stating that the policy would go into force tomorrow, August 2, 2023.
Sanwo-Olu added that agreements had been reached with a number of transport unions to provide a 25% discount in addition. He pledged to take proactive measures to improve the quality of life for locals.
However, although the state-owned transportation system followed the cut, privately operated commercial buses disregarded the governor's directive.
