The Borno Government will utilize Lake Chad's agricultural potential – Zulum
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has expressed his administration's dedication to harnessing the agricultural potential of the Lake Chad shores to promote agriculture in the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, the governor, during his visit to Baga, assessed a portion of the lake for agricultural purposes.

Zulum also discussed plans to enhance trans-border trade between Nigerian communities and their counterparts in Chad and Niger Republics.

During the assessment, Zulum noted that engaging in agricultural activities along the lake's shores would provide a source of livelihood for returning communities, reducing their dependence on government support and humanitarian aid.

He emphasized the commitment to supporting large-scale farming, highlighting the town's recovery from insurgent attacks in the past few years.

Zulum outlined the objectives, stating, "Our first objective is to see how we can support the Army and the Navy to clear the waterways so that movement by boat from Baga to Chad can commence, which will enhance trans-border trade and agriculture."

Additionally, while in the border town of Baga, the governor approved the construction of a High Islamic College with a capacity for over 2,000 students.

The college aims to integrate traditional Islamic education with literacy, numeracy, digital education, and vocational training.
