Three people are feared dead when a fire destroys a portion of the Canadian Embassy.
On Monday in Abuja, a fire destroyed a portion of the Canadian Embassy, leaving three people thought dead.

Witnesses claim that the fire started while the embassy's power generating plant was being serviced, engulfing and killing three members of the technical staff and allowing one person to escape through the power house's roof.

The source informed our correspondent that the force of the unexpected fire explosion caused others to be blown out of the powerhouse.

The Guardian was informed by staff members who fled the embassy for safety outside the gates that the fire started around 11:30 PM and that fire trucks were called in to put out the flames as rescue efforts continued.

While an ambulance pulled in to remove those impacted, our witness saw embassy officials being taken to safety under trees and other safe spaces within the embassy enclosure.
