Young progressives alert the NNPP to the dangers of intimidating Appeal Court justices for the Kano governorship.
Top NNPP figures and other subversive elements have been cautioned by Progressives League of Youth voters not to intimidate justices of the court of appeals sitting to decide on the verdict of the Kano state election petition tribunal, which reversed Governor Abba Yusuf's election victory.

In a statement, the group's national coordinator, Amb. Audu Usman Shuaibu, claimed that the NNPP, working with outgoing Governor Yusuf, had been funding negative campaigns against the judiciary in an effort to intimidate and blackmail the learned Justices of the Appeal Court into tampering with the legal system.

The group insisted that the appeal court would provide a just verdict regardless of the level of intimidation or blackmail.

They urged well-meaning Nigerians to support the Hon. Justices of the Appeal Court, particularly those considering the Kano State governorship appeal, to resist their deceptive tactics and advised politicians to refrain from electoral fraud because the country's judiciary is capable of bolstering democracy by consistently enforcing the rule of law.

According to the report, "the judiciary has proven to be the common man's last hope with the series of judgements being delivered so far."

"Even though the Transmission Monitoring Group (TMG) and other civil society organizations have publicly acknowledged that more than 165,000 votes given to the NNPP were erroneous and therefore did not exist in the first place, the governor of Kano State is still funding these organizations and certain individuals, such as Femi Falana, in order to undermine the judiciary's stellar reputation, which is being praised by people of all political stripes."

On September 20, 2023, the Kano State Governorship election petition tribunal removed Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf from office as governor and proclaimed Dr. Nasiru Gawun as the state's legitimately elected leader. This came about after the tribunal separated more than 165,000 invalid votes that had been previously given to the NNPP in the governorship election on March 18, 2023.

After receiving 1,019,602 votes overall, NNPP Abba Kabir Yusuf defeated APC candidate Dr. Nasiru Gawuna, who received 890, 705 votes. It is noteworthy that the APC candidate won the election with a vote difference of 36,766 votes and was formally proclaimed elected by the tribunal after the subtraction of 165,663 illegitimate or invalid votes, leaving the outgoing Kano State Governor and his party with 853, 939.
