Benue desires total peace, and FG promises to put an end to insecurity next year.
The government has acknowledged that it is aware of how serious Nigeria's security issues are. As a result, it promised to eliminate insecurity by the end of the following year.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Dr. Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defense, provided assurance.

The present administration, especially in the unstable North, is reportedly taking a proactive stance against bandits before they strike, according to the old Zamfara State government.

"All security challenges will be overcome from now until November 2024, God willing," Matawalle pledged.

He added that preempting the gunmen in their houses before they attack and crush them was one of the tactics being used to put an end to the threat.

Due to accusations of corruption and misappropriation of public funds, Matawalle's relationship with his successor, Dr. Dauda Lawan Dare of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has soured after he lost his attempt for reelection this year.

"The governor of the state has never contacted me and Badaru or asked to meet with us on the security of his state," the minister claimed, despite the severity of the security concerns in the state.

He continued by saying that other governors, whose states are beset by insecurity, were working with the federal government to find a solution.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, in a similar vein, urged yesterday's military high command that Benue State requires complete peace, not the relative calm that is being observed at the moment.

Yesterday at 1:19 pm, Alia arrived at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. Shortly after meeting with General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, in his office behind closed doors, Alia made the appeal to reporters.

He clarified that the state is still at risk because four Local Councils are bordered by Cameroon; for this reason, they have asked the military to assist them.

According to the CDS, efforts are being made to guarantee that all camps for internally displaced people are shut down nationwide and that the prisoners are sent back to their respective homes.

According to him, the state government asked the military to set up Forward Operation Bases (FOB) in a few key places where solid minerals had been found and where criminals had fled to hideouts.
