Decomposing body remains of a missing OAU student are excavated by police in Ogun

Decomposing body remains of a missing OAU student are excavated by police in OgunTwo individuals, Akeem Usman and Ifadowo Niyi, have been taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command in connection with the purported ritualistic killing of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) student Quadri Salami, 18, who was ranked 100.

After not seeing Salami since November 8, his father had filed a missing person's report on November 14, 2023.

The breakthrough, according to police spokeswoman Omolola Odutola, occurred on Wednesday when Usman was taken into custody by the police on suspicion of having Salami's phone.

Usman acknowledged that they both killed and dismembered Salami as part of a ritual, but he blamed Niyi of the crime.

According to Odutola, CP Alamuti Abiodun Mustapha, the Commissioner of Police, personally oversaw a crew that dug up Salami's decaying body parts from a small grave in Mile 6 in the Ajemo neighborhood of Abeokuta.

The policeman went on to say that Ifadowo allegedly stole Salami's skull and both wrists, paying Usman N100,000 from the body parts' sales profits.

"Ifadowo took Quadri's head and both of his wrists and transferred the hundred thousand Naira—the proceeds from the sale of the human body parts—into AKEEM Usman's account," revealed Odutola.

"The suspects then proceeded to sell the victim's other body parts to online scammers on demand. They also used the remaining body parts for 'Awure,' a crime against humanity, and buried the victim's heart, two legs, and flesh inside a plastic rubber for ceremonial purposes."

He continued by saying that in their confession, the pair acknowledged utilizing four more human heads in "Osole" money ceremonies.

The police officer added that the suspects would face charges and are now being held at the SCID's police headquarters in Eleweran while the covert investigation is carried out.

"The CP is still dedicated to seeing that justice is done and will keep looking into this matter in order to hold all of the offenders accountable to the fullest extent of the law."
