According to a statement from the police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, agents found weapons, ammo, a car, and other evidence from the suspects.
According to Ndukwe, "Kanayo Uzuegbu, the Commissioner of Police for Enugu State Command, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Police to continuously clamp down on unrepentant criminal elements in the State."
The reaffirmation comes after seven male suspects—including a former council member of the local government—were apprehended on charges of conspiracy, armed robbery, unauthorized firearm possession, and secret cultism. The seized items included six weapons, sixteen live rounds, and a stolen vehicles.
"According to a synopsis of the arrests and recoveries, on June 12, 2023, at approximately 9:30 p.m., one Ndubuisi Oboro, age 27, was taken into custody by Police Operatives working with the Neighbourhood Watch Group in the Abakpa Police Division of the Command.
The male victim was beaten by the culprit and his fugitive accomplices, who also took his Toyota Camry automobile and stripped him of his phones. However, as Operatives closed in on them, they were about to flee. They apprehended the suspect, found the vehicle, and took one locally manufactured double-barreled weapon.
In a different development, male suspects Kosisochukwu Ochiora, 25, Agbo Daniel (also known as Ara), 25, Henry Agbo Ogbonna, 42, Ani Samuel, 17, and Okolo Ndukanachi, 24 were taken into custody by Police Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the Command in November 2023.
The accused were taken into custody on charges of conspiracy, cultism, and illegal gun ownership. Following their apprehension, four firearms were found, including sixteen (16) live cartridges, one (1) cut-to-size single barrel gun, and two (2) locally manufactured revolver pistols.
"Investigations have shown that the suspects have admitted to being members of the Vikings Confraternity. One of them, Henry Agbo Ogbonna, was discovered to be a member and sponsor of the secret cult group activities. He was also a former councillor of Ikiriki Ward 6 in the Enugu South Local Government Legislative Council and the Executive Chairman's Senior Special Assistance on Works.
It also showed that the suspects had refined preparations in November 2023 to exact revenge on one of their cult members who had been attacked by a well-known member of a rival cult, Apache Tiger (also known as Two-two). This was prior to the Operatives taking action and taking them into custody.
In a similar vein, on November 24, 23 at approximately 8.30 p.m., Operatives of the Squad detained a 28-year-old male suspect named Ani Chidera for his involvement in the burglary case. Following a thorough inquiry, the suspect—who also admitted to being a member of Viking's Viking Confraternity—was found to be in possession of one (1) locally manufactured pistol. The individual in question has been charged and placed under remand at the Correctional Custodial Facility.
