During a weekend inspection, Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, noted that several of the buildings in the region did not maintain the required 3-meter buffer between them and the drainage channel.
Wahab countered that the government only required 2.5 meters of space, not three.
He issued a warning, saying that any building that did not follow the rules would be taken down.
Before the deadline expires, the commissioner requested the owners of the affected buildings to voluntarily remove such encroaching fences.
He forewarned that property owners would be surcharged for the costs incurred if they failed to comply and the government used taxpayer money to enforce.
