Peter Obi and others lament Chukwuemeka Ezeife's passing
Peter Obi, the Labour Party's (LP) presidential candidate in 2023, and other well-wishers are lamenting the passing of Chief Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, the first civilian governor of Anambra State.

In a post on X, Obi expressed his sorrow and sadness at learning of Ezeife's passing late on Thursday night.

"He was a de-tribalized Nigerian nationalist who stayed committed to the cause of good governance in Nigeria and made a significant contribution to the advancement of our beloved country's democratic ideals," Obi stated.

He was like a father figure to me, and I benefited much from his counsel, support, and knowledge.

Nigeria has lost a wonderful man with a kind heart and insightful advice during this difficult period for the country.

"May the God who brought him home grant him eternal rest and give his family and all of us who are grieving the strength to bear the tremendous loss of his unique and sad life."

Chief Rob Ezeife made the announcement of Ezeife's passing in a statement on the family's behalf.

Ezeife, who led Anambra state as governor from January 1992 to November 1993, is rumored to have passed away on Thursday at the Federal Medical Center in Abuja.

"Our most distinguished son, 'Okwadike,' Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, CON, a former Federal Permanent Secretary, a former governor of Anambra State, a former Political Adviser to the President, and a former Presidential aspirant, is being promoted to glory on behalf of the Ezeife Dynasty of Igbo-Ukwu," the statement said.

This tragic incident happened at the Federal Medical Center in Abuja yesterday around 6:00 p.m.

"We'll release more information on the deceased and the plans for his state funeral later.
