Senator advocates for a state of emergency and expresses concern about the surge in killings in Taraba.
David Jimkuta, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Social Warfare and Poverty Alleviation, has expressed concern over the increase in homicides in Taraba state.

In just three months, more over 700 people have died in the state's Ussa and Takum Local Government councils, according to the senator representing Taraba South Senatorial District.

Speaking to reporters at the Wukari council administrative offices, where he was born and raised, he conveyed his deep concern on the increasing banditry that has destroyed over fifty villages in Takum and Ussa.

The senator drew attention in particular to the dreadful circumstances in the state of Utah, where widespread banditry has caused farmers to flee their crops and raised concerns about an imminent food shortage problem.

Senator Jimkuta recommended cooperative efforts with people to obtain precise information and begin focused operations against the criminals, while also calling on security forces to act decisively.

He underlined how urgent it is to get these criminals out of their hiding places so that farmers can get back to their vital farming operations.

"Let's bring them out; we know where they are. We are facing an impending food catastrophe since these areas are important producers of food, and because people are displaced and unable to visit their villages, Senator Jimkuta issued a warning.

The senator begged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency over security in the Takum-Ussa districts.

He contended that a declaration of this kind would facilitate the implementation of crucial actions, allowing farmers to go back to their farms and start reestablishing their livelihoods in the face of an unprecedented danger to the food security of the region.
