Tuition costs at Unical increase by 100%.
The University of Calabar's (Unical) administration has declared a more than 100% rise in undergraduate tuition costs.


The declaration was made in a statement that was provided to newsmen in Calabar on Monday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).


The university's Senate met in emergency session on Friday to discuss the upward revision of fees, according to a statement released by the institution's spokesperson, Mr. Effiong Eyo.


According to the statement, the upward review would be implemented during the academic sessions of 2022–2023 and 2023–2024.


According to NAN, the increase will result in the following fees: N111,000 for first-year students, N91,500 for returning students, and N114,000 for final-year students enrolled in non-science courses.


They also have third-party dues of N36,500, N21,500, and N21,500 to pay, respectively.


Similarly, the cost of science courses was raised for new students, returning students, and final-year students to N155,000, N125,000, and N148,000, respectively.


Similar to this, they must also pay N38,500, N21,500, and N21,500 as third-party dues.


According to NAN, before the increase, the average student's tuition was N64,050 for first-year students, N52,050 for final-year students, and N49,500 for returning students, depending on the department.


The administration stated that maintaining the high academic standards for which the university was renowned and the current state of the economy required the increase.
