This was said in a statement provided to reporters in Dutse and signed by Secretary to the Government (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim.
According to Ibrahim, the selection of the new VC followed the university's Governing Council's recommendations, as required by the law that established the university.
Prof. Yakasai is the Chairman of the Departmental Quality Assurance Committee at Bayero University Kano (BUK) till his appointment.
"The new VC has extensive graduate and undergraduate teaching experience, excellent supervision, and meaningful cross-disciplinary collaboration. She has a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology.
His excellent research record is demonstrated by the caliber of his publications in peer-reviewed journals. In addition to his primary focus in education, Ibrahim stated that he has conducted study on the subject of Strategies for Human Resource Management in Local Government Administration.
He clarified that Yakasai has served the community and shown academic leadership as the previous Dean of the Post Graduate School at BUK.
The SSG further mentioned that the new VC held positions at the same university as Dean of the Faculty of Education, Head of Department, and Deputy Dean of Student Affairs.
"The new vice-chancellor graduated with a B. A. Ed. (Education/History) from Bayero University Kano in 1986. He thereafter went on to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he got an M. Ed. (Educational Psychology) in 1991 and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology in 2000.
"He began working at Bayero University Kano in 1991 and progressed from lecturer to dean before being named chairman of the department's quality assurance committee in 2021.
"He is a member of the Nigeria Academy of Education and Counseling Association of Nigeria, and he teaches educational psychology."
He stated that the appointment became official on December 5, 2023.
