Edo 2024: Ikhine declares, "I will end PDP governance in Edo."
Gideon Ikhine, an engineer and a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who is running for governor of Edo State, promised Monday to unseat Governor Godwin Obaseki's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration.

Speaking at a meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Edo State, Ikhine declared to the group that he will be running for governor in the upcoming election.

The Edo Central Senatorial District politician had run for governor in 2020 on the PDP platform, but she resigned in favor of Governor Godwin Obaseki before the party's primary poll.

He claimed that a growing number of politicians from various political parties were joining the APC in the state, making the party's chances of winning the gubernatorial race more favorable.

Ikhine stated that the divide among Edo PDP members has further increased the opposition party's prospects of winning the election. He added that he is capable of bringing the APC back to power in the state.

He claimed that the APC is still the team to beat because of members like himself from the Central Senatorial District and Senator Adams Oshiomhole from the Edo North Senatorial District.

Ikhine argued that the state's citizens had not benefited from democracy under the Obaseki-led administration.

"We are going to translate the peace we enjoy in the APC into victory in the upcoming governorship election," he said.
