In a statement released on Wednesday in Kaduna, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations 1 Division, verified the detention.
Yayaha stated that in response to reliable information, soldiers from 1 Division of the Nigerian Army detained two terrorists' accomplices and ammunition suppliers in the Awon general area of Kachia Local Government in Kaduna State early on October 24.
He clarified that intelligence from an earlier arrest of a collaborator who had been held by troops had led to the arrests of the criminals in their various homes near Awon.
One locally manufactured AK-47 weapon, two dane guns, eight rounds of 9mm ammo, seven live cartridges, and five shells of expended cartridges were among the materials found and the two criminals who were apprehended.
The objects were found where they had been previously hidden within the offenders' compound.
Yahaya further revealed that during a separate operation that day, the division's troops encountered terrorists and criminal elements while conducting a clearance operation in the Dogon Daji-Saulawa general region of the Birnin Gwari Local Government region.
He said that the crooks were forced to flee in confusion by the troops' superior firepower during a gunfight.
A G3 rifle, sixteen motorcycles, two locally manufactured firearms, and a cell phone were among the items found.
"The troops have been tasked by Maj.-Gen. Valentine Okoro, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, to maintain the pace and remove all criminal elements from the division's areas of responsibility," Yahaya stated.
