The foreign minister of Canada confirms the explosion at the High Commission in Abuja.
Minister of Foreign Affairs for Canada, Mélanie Joly, has confirmed the explosion that occurred on Monday, November 6, 2023, and shook her nation's High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria.


There were rumors that a fire started while the embassy's power plant was being fixed.


The Guardian was informed by embassy staff who fled that the fire started at 11:30 PM and that fire trucks were called in to put out the flames while rescue efforts continued.


An ambulance arrived to take the injured, and embassy staff members were escorted to safety beneath trees and other secure areas within the embassy compound, according to a correspondent for The Guardian.


Joly commented on the tragic event and promised an investigation.


She also expressed her sympathies to the families of the victims of the explosion.


The Minister posted on X, "We can confirm there was an explosion at our High Commission in Nigeria." "The fire has been extinguished, and we are attempting to identify the reason of this circumstance.


"I extend my sincere sympathies to the families of the two individuals who perished in this tragic event.
