First Lady offers seniors a ray of hope—OfficialFirst Lady Oluremi Tinubu has been referred to by Dr. Emem Omokaro, Director-General of the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), as a beacon of hope for the nation's old population.

According to Omokaro, who made the announcement in Abuja on Friday, Oluremi is a true representative of senior citizens in society because of her dedication to the elderly through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

She added that the action supported Nigerians' belief that the administration of President Bola Tinubu would guarantee that discrimination against older people would be tolerated at all.

In order to guarantee that elderly people are properly mainstreamed into the Social Investment Programs, the D-G gave Nigerians her word that she would work with pertinent organizations.

"This will encompass health, social care, and other commendable projects, such as the realization of the One Community, One Senior Center Project for senior citizens throughout the country," the speaker stated.

In addition, Omokaro asked state governments to move quickly to domesticate the National Policy on Ageing and the National Senior Citizens Center Act of 2017.

According to her, the RHI template's inclusive and decentralized design should motivate state and local governments to guarantee equitable and age-appropriate responses.

"Especially when it comes to the planning, budgeting, and execution of social and health services to meet the needs of various demographic groups without neglecting the elderly," the speaker stated.

The National Stakeholders Consultative Forum on Ageing received praise from the D-G for its numerous initiatives aimed at improving the lives of the aged.

She said we should be grateful that you served as a rung on the ladder that the center utilized to connect with and guarantee older people's participation, even in remote locations.

You also contributed to the process of choosing the 250 senior citizens from across the Federation's states who will receive the RHI.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the first lady had allotted 250 spots nationwide for senior citizens to take advantage of the RHI.
