Kogi women's and youth organizations begged Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for governor, Alh. Muritala Yakubu-Ajaka, to accept the results of the governorship election on November 11 in good faith on Saturday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the groups urged Yakubu-Ajaka and his supporters not to do any actions that may ignite the state while staging a rally through the streets of Lokoja. The demonstrators held banners with varied inscriptions.
According to the groups, Kogi is the property of all native people, regardless of their political, ethnic, or religious beliefs. It should be loved, cared for, and protected rather than being destroyed by fire.
Speaking on behalf of the youth, Mr. John Dele stated that under Governor Yahaya Bello's leadership, the state's peaceful environment cannot be compromised.
We are happy that the off-cycle gubernatorial election was the most equitable and free in our state's history.
In order to avoid bothering the election arbiter and the opposition, he stated, "we urged aggrieved parties, who might still want to contest its outcome, to go about it in line with laid down guidelines."
Dele urged security authorities to step up and keep the state's current peace in place.
Additionally, he pleaded with Usman Ododo, the next governor, to make sure that the incumbent's contributions to security and peace were continued.
He advised the SDP and its allies to refrain from stirring up controversy unnecessarily by taking steps that could destroy the state.
"An election has been held and a winner has been declared. Go the proper route if you're angry," he advised.
Ireti Olukomogbon, who was also speaking on behalf of the women, claimed that the SDP candidate was attempting to incite the public against INEC by making baseless accusations.
She urged the SDP candidate and his supporters to embrace peace and cooperate with the victor, saying that the Kogi governorship election was free and fair.
"Kogi people have voted to demonstrate unequivocally that they support the Kogi Agenda. Follow the correct legal procedure if you feel wronged. Regarding the demographics of young and women, we will help Alh. Usman Ododo achieve success," she declared.
In response to the demonstration, Mr. Isaiah Ijele, SDP Director of New Media, Muri/Sam Campaign Council, claimed that the APC had orchestrated the demonstrations in opposition to the SDP and its candidate for governor.
As a result of the governorship election on November 11, he denied that his party was involved in any violent acts in the state.
He declared, "We, therefore, demand the arrest and prosecution of all those engaged in the demonstrations, encouraging violence and making provocative remarks."
