NiDCOM demands that two Nigerians held in Togo be released.
The Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged for the release of two Nigerians who are reportedly wrongfully detained in Togo.

The Special Assistant on Social Media to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dada Olusegun, conveyed this information in a statement on Thursday.

Providing an update, Olusegun mentioned that NiDCOM's Chairman/CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has instructed the Head of its Legal Unit to address the matter, and the Nigerian mission in Togo has been activated to ensure a swift resolution.

The two individuals were arrested by Togolese airport authorities on November 8, 2023, as they were en route to Canada via Togo for cheaper flights compared to Lagos or Abuja.

NIDCOM became aware of the situation when one of them managed to send a message to Canada-based academic, Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi, who revealed that the two Nigerians had been sentenced to six months in prison by Togolese authorities.
