Obasanjo claims that future generations of Africans will settle their debts.Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has emphasized that the next generations of Africans have no alternative but to bear the burden of the continent's substantial debts.

Speaking during an engagement with 2023 awardees of the Future Africa Leaders Foundation, an initiative by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, Obasanjo highlighted the challenges associated with debt relief.

He underscored that previous debt relief secured for Nigeria during his presidency in 2003 would be challenging to replicate due to mismanagement of the forgiven debts.

Obasanjo cautioned against falling into the trap of accumulating debts, labeling them as an economic burden.

Obasanjo acknowledged leadership as the primary challenge facing the continent, stating that coming generations would inevitably bear the current debts incurred by different African countries.

He praised Pastor Oyakhilome for his efforts in building leaders and emphasized the need for more individuals like him to address the continent's leadership crisis.

In a related event, Obasanjo expressed optimism that Nigeria's socio-economic situation could improve in about four years through prayers and thanksgiving.

At the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Ogun State 5th Thanksgiving service, he reflected on the current challenges and urged gratitude for the blessings received, suggesting that what seems bad today may improve in the future.

Various dignitaries, including the governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, former governor Sen. Gbenga Daniel, and other notable figures, commended Obasanjo's leadership and global impact.
